[Advice] What would be a decent upgrade to a MSI GeForce GTX 560Ti OC Twin FrozR II 2048MB GDDR5 Gra

Hi folks

Currently I have a MSI GeForce GTX 560Ti OC Twin FrozR II 2048MB GDDR5 graphics card, but I'm thinking it's maybe starting to get to the time for an upgrade, even though it's performance is still fairly decent at 1080.

So I was wondering, out of the new generation of cards and best of the last generation, what would be a good upgrade? Bearing in mind, I don't want to spend a fortune (£250 or less), but I do want to be VR capable and have decent performance (mainly in 1080) for the next few years to come.

Would the 1060 be much better than a 970? Have seen some folks saying that there are 970's going for pretty cheap at the minute, so I could maybe get one of those, then upgrade in a couple of years again?

If you are not fussed about buying used then get a 390 8GB which is about the same as an RX 480 and a bit faster than a 970. The extra VRAM will come in use with some of the newest games. I got mine for £155 and will serve me well until VEGA/Volta come out.

I think in vr the 1060 would be twice as fast as 970.

Also the 6gb of vram vs the 970 with its gimped 3.5gb + 500 would make the 1060 lasy much longer.

Either card would be massive upgrade from your current one

Great information folks, thanks.

What about my PSU and powering these suggestions? I've read some of the older AMD gfx cards can be thirsty on the juice. Beyond what it says in my forum signature, my PC also has an SSD, 2 x HDDs, 5/6 fans + a front panel fan controller and a light strip or two...

Probably less power consumption than your 560ti so should be fine.

Yes the amd 290 and 290x use a lot of power I would avoid them with your psu

I've got a Sapphire Nitro OC+ RX840 that cost £250. Yet to find anything @1080p that runs at any less than 60fps.

Not sure why everyone seems to recommend the 1060 over the 480 as more recent reviews seem to favour the 480, especially for those not looking to upgrade for another 2-3 years.

Can you point me in the direction of a couple of those reviews, for a read?
