Advice with finding a decent job

.......I seriously need to find a decent job!

I am considering trying some volunteer work which will eventually lead to a decent job at the end, but I am a little unsure of the best way to go about it, does anyone have any experience?

I have considered sending my CV(when I get round to sorting it out, not looking forward to that!)to a few companies offering to work for a few days a week or whatever and asking if they would consider offering me a job at the end of it, is that normal? are there better alternatives?

The biggest problem is that I do not have any good qualifications, which will mean my CV will be pretty terrible qualification-wise. At school/college I was more interested in going out/playing football than studying. It is something that I deeply regret:(
I don't really want anything brilliant, just something with decent prospects which might possibly lead to a career. At the end of the day, I would be happy with just a little more money than I can spend in terms of salary.


Also, a recommendation of some kind of careers guidance place would be helpful if anyone knows or has experience with any.

Is there anything you have interests in? You could look at getting some qualifications around those interests. As you've said without having any good qualifications you'll struggle to find work.

Oh, just noticed whilst editing the OP i must have cut a paragraph:o


I am in work, been working as a care assistant for about 4 years now, but a few years ago I started doing night shifts and tbh it is getting to me, I am always so tired:(

I have a pretty full work history, with one gap of 4 months, 5 years ago when I was injured at work and had to have a few ops.

The work I do atm is ok, but REALLY not what I want to be doing for much longer!

I would have no problem in getting good references at all.

Well this is partly the problem, I already have a job which tbh is an absolute breeze. It would be so easy for me to stay stuck in the rut I am in, but time has come for me to do something about it.

I do get put off a little seeing all the people being made redundant etc, and some of the thread on here recently about people being sacked without consequence because they hadn't worked somewhere for long is a little unsettling. I would absolutely hate to quite my job for a new one only to find that the next job had fallen through a few months later for whatever reason!
 
Poundland for free for two months with a 1 in 10 chance of a permanent job at the end of it? Seems like the right choice to me.
