It's been 3 years since i built my pc now, finally its started giving me trouble re-booting and generally being slow
my spec is as follows

amd athelon xp2700
asus a7n8x delux motherboard
1 gig ram (2x514)
80gb hdd
40gb hdd
Leadtek a400tdh geforce 6800 gt card
Power suppy: cant find the recipt, but its 6months old and high end unit bought to solve re-booting (didn't work)

sadly i bought the gfx card on agp so with money being tight can't build a new rig for another year so an upgrade it is. this is what i've seen so far

Asrock AM2NF3-VSTA motherboard

AMD Athlon 64 3800 (AM2) can i do beter for my money?

Dont know what to do about HDD's i will need at most 160gb, is there any advantage in useing 2x 80gb over 1x 160gb hdd? was under the impression that its better even when not set up in RAID?? might be complete rubbish, dont know.....

The pc is used 98% for gaming btw.

Thanks for your advice

That AM2NF3 will require DDR2 RAM, Your best bet would be the 775Dual-VSTA:

http://www.asrock.com/product/775Dual-VSTA.htm

It supports both DDR & DDR2 as well as AGP & PCI-E graphics card, it supports the latest C2D cpus, too.

So couple this with a E6300 then you have a pretty powerful budget machine, if not just go for a cheap P4 then upgrade to C2D later.

With HDD I personally think 2*80Gb is a better setup than 1*160Gb; I have 4*80Gb plus an external 80 2.5" for backing up important files, partition images...etc. If one of your drives goes bad you don't loose all the data, plus if you handle big files a lot then you won't notice any obvious slow-downs as long as it doesn't involve the OS drive.

How much you got to spend and what are you looking to buy. Far easier to make suggestions with that info... ;)
