Advice with X2 5600+ temp and fans

Hi all, I have just purchased a X2 5600+ processor with stock HSF and put it into a Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe Mobo with 2 Gb of Crossair matched PC6400 RAM. Though the machine runs well and I don't seem to have any stability problems I am a little worried about the temps and RPM of the fan.

At idle with C n Q enabled I get around 32 - 33 degrees 37 - 38 without C n Q and a fan RPM of around 3300 - 3500. Then at load when encoding a video or playing a game the temp goes up to the mid 50 degrees and the fan can run at around 5300 - 5500 RPM, then the temps drop back to idle temps pretty quickly, but the fan RPM stays up around the 4000 ish mark for a while then drops.

I got the cables running so I am not restricting airflow the best I can and I also have a side panel 80 mm fan and a rear 80 mm fan for extracting air. I have touched the heatsink and though it is hot, it is not burning my fingers when I touch it, so I assume this means that the heatsink is conducting the heat OK. Yet if I take the side off the panel off, then the fan RPM alters dramatically and never clears 5000 RPM under load and temps are slightly cooler.

The temps don;t bother me too much as it could be the sensor, it is the fan running so fast and it is not the quietest of fans when spinning fast. I did not see any plastic on the HSF and also the clip was not the normal type, but just the clips each side and a metal level to lock into place, not the plastic fold over type on the 939/754 chips, so am worried I did not lock it into place OK.

Any advice is appreciated or am I worrying over nothing with the temps/fan. Sorry for the long post.

Nothing to worry about at all. The X2 5600+ and X2 6000+ are 89-115W chips thereabouts, so they do run a bit on the toasty side.

Hola,

is the fan the stock one with 4 pipes? I also used to have it on my pc (I replaced for a sonic tower cos of the noise) and it was good and easy to install but quite noisy sometimes. I remember very well the fan starting to spin fast when gaming and when out of the gaming carry on for about 5 minutes making noise :o

If you can notice a different in temps with your case side panel off there is room for improvement in the case airflow; add more fans!!

When I bought my 8800 gts temps went up for about 5C for both cpu and mobo, so I made a whole on the side panel and put a 12cm fan; my cpu and system is running quite cool again ;)
