My Partners Mum is in the final hours of her life. Luckily my girlfriend has managed to get to Zurich in time to say goodbye. I will be going out there tomorrow or Monday to help with the arrangements. As my girlfriend is the oldest child (24) and her dad passed away a number of years ago, does this mean she will be become the legal guardian of her little brother who is 15?

Trying to remember a conversation with a lawyer (family friend) I had about 4 years ago but I'm pretty sure it is not a default process, do you know if her mother has expressed wishes for his future? I think it has to be OKed in court anyway.

I expect that he will become the ward of the court until the authorities decide the best place for him.

I should think that his elder sister would become his legal guardian unless she is either unsuitable or doesn't wish to be his guardian.

Following the thread http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18232416 Everything looked ok this afternoon, the Hospital had her stable and we were facing no bills, then she took a turn for the worse and she is in a private room with her daughter and other close family so at least everyone will be together.

As she is a muslim the customs are very different from what I am use to. However her final wish is that she wishes to be buried in Zurich with her grandparents.

Turning to the younger brother he lives with his mum in their Council flat. So after this tragic weekend he will be left with no parents or home. The rest of the family are dotted all over east London and I'm in Gravesend.
