Lo peeps! I have just changed from AMD to Intel, got myself a PQ5 Pro motherboard and a E5200 intel chip along with some g-skill pc8500 2x2gb memory.Wondering if someone can point me in the right direction over overclocking this baby. I am a noob to overclocking so please go gentle on me,lol. Thanks people :)

Only got the stock cooler for now matey.I know... i know. When i can i will get a better cooler, but for now, i only have the stock intel one. :(

I did manage to mess about and get the pc running at 3.6 ghz, but it was unstable and i kinda got scared and just put it all back.I have put the memory at 2.10 volts though.

Ok, reading sticky now, thnakyou. I get very confused regarding memory dividing and all that lingo that goes along with it.Plus i have been using AMD systems since 1998, so im totoally lost and completely out of my depth right now. I know i have a lot of reading to do, but before i fried my 1 day old system i thought i would pop on and some nice people like your good self might give me more indepth advice. Thankyou for your time :)

I have to agree, its a very good sticky.Only thing from stopping me overclocking this thing is myself.I know the stock cooler isnt a good start, i just have to get my head around memory dividing and the rest of things like that. I guess i have a lot of reading, lol.Think im best taking some head-ache tablets now, becasue i know this is all going to start a maegrain, lol.

Ah right. I have found that there is a big difference in reading what it says onscreen and actually going into the bios and finding out what option does what. All i seem to be doing right now is playing with the clear cmos jumper, lol.

Well so far its at 3.50 ghz. All i have done is put the cpu volts to 1.35v and uppted the fsb from 200 to 280 with a multi of 12.5. Seems stable and my pc have come alive. Whats a safe cpu volts for these things ?

I got it to 296 fsb which gave me 2.7ghz. I ran a stress test prgoram and cpu 1 failed. Its plays games ok and runs fine, but i know its not right.I will do as you suggested and try lowering somethings and post back, let you know how things went.I am impressed with this little £68 chip though, i must say.

Ran prime for 5 mins, then core 1 failed. My pc plays games fine and seems ok but core 1 failed. I have my fsb at 296 , mem volts at 2.1v , cpu volts are at 1.42v and multi at 12.5 , giving me 3.70ghz. Im really happy at that but it failing prime have displeased me.After ive gone thru the family dinner get-to-gether thingy(pain in butt) im going to up the volts.May i ask you guys what i should goto on volts. And please bare in mind that i really am a novice at overclocking. The stepping on my cip is 6 and the revision is M0, if thats what u mean by vid.If im wrong then please point me in the right direction, and i will try and tell you the info that you need to know, thankyou again guys.....

Ok, well ive just got back in from the weekly family get-together and my pc has been running prime95 for just over 5 hours. Now one crash or problem, cpu temps were 83c core 0 and 83c core 1. Multi was set to 12.5, fsb freq 296 , cpu volts at 1.44 and ram volts at 2.1 . Running at 3.70 ghz. My pc is flying, running very smooth indeed, im very happy with it, and all this with a stock cooler.I think i need to invest in a decent (but cheapish) cooler, and try get to 4.00ghz. I will also save the overclock config and mess some more with it, just to see what it can do.I will lower the multi and up the fsb, see what happens :) Thanks for pushing me in the right direction guys, ive do so much reading up on this overclocking subject, its mind boggling.I really an impressed with the E5200 cpu, the potential is amazing. Also very happy with my P5Q Pro motherboard, its a great budjet combination....

I didnt over-clock it, you guys did. I just read what u told me and cranked it up. My pc is flying....... I really wanted a E8500 like my mate has, his pc is very fast. But im so happy that i didnt spend a lot of money.Ive gone from a dual core opteron 165 clocked to 2.6 ghz to this and the difference is amazing.I think i will invest in a better cooler.Im on a really tight budjet though, so the artic one sounds good. One thing though, should i try bring down the cpu volts a bit or just leave it as it is ?

[/IMG]Just purchased a Xigmatek HDT-S1283 Exposed Heatpipe Base Heatsink . This cooler has a massive 120mm fan so it should bring my temps down a little.Do you think i might be able to hit 4 gig with this baby ?

Done as u said Contro13R, put multi to 9, fsb to 333.Seems ok, runs ok. If i put fsb over 370, pc wont boot. The other way i did it was 12.5 multi, uppted cpu volts to 1.42v , fsb to 292, that gave me 3.7ghz, but pc seems sluggish.I think my memory settings is holding it back .Any suggestions..?

I have been upping it bit by bit, and trying all sorts of settings.right now its at stock, i think i will try again tomorrow.I know my chip is a good clocker, its just getting it running fast and smooth.I can easily get it to 3.7 and it ran ok, but i got low memory test results in everest. But when i lowered the multiplier and put the fsb to 333, like you said, i got 1000 points more in everest, and the pc seemed smoother. My memory is pc8500 but its automatically set itsself to 800, and it doesnt like being touch, the pc crashes.Has the memory under-clocked itself becasue the cpu is a E5200?
