Hi,

Before I throw this out the window (it's stressing me out) just wondering if anyone can offer any advise as to what the problem may be.

Spec

Asus Striker Extreme
Intel QX9650 with Zalman cooler
2GB Sli memory
Western Digital Raptor's
2x8800 Ultra's
Sound Blaster Fatality
CM Case & PSU

Symptoms

Computer will not boot, fans etc spring to life but does not reach the Bios stage.

Leading up to the problem

On Sunday night I remember booting the machine and when windows loaded it said found new hardware and reported my Soundcard. That's wierd I thought haven't changed anything. Also noticed that the machine hung a couple of times on the BIOS loading screen and had to be reset.

On Monday the machine didn't boot at all.. same problem as above fan life but doesn't get to BIOS reporting stages. After disconnecting everything, checking cards, turning on/off eventually it booted but the BIOS report "Abnormal results", when I entered the setup there were no hard drives, I reset to default, nothing to no drives or anything, tried a few more times and it booted to windows. It wasn't perfect as it froze every now and again when booting but once windows had loaded it was fine.

Tonight the machine froze on booting but worked on next atempt. I had left the machine on the desktop and all of a sudden there was a lound random noise from the speakers, the machine was still operational and I managed to shut down in windows. In the final part of shut down there was lound screeching noise, I think still from speakers.

Anyway now at the black screen/no booting scenario and i dont think it's going to recover

What I've Checked

I've removed all cards from the machine, also memory, replace each bit one by one and mixed them. I've cleared CMOS from the MB. I also removed the battery on the MB and replaced. Onboard sound had been disabled anyway.

I've really no idea what the problem is, I would guess it's a Motheboard problem but I have no idea really and have no way of checking that.

Any help appreciated.

When you cleared the CMOS that would re-enable your on board sound card, but it might look like your motherboard might of expired, without testing each component in a another machine it's hard to say.

Do all your fans run and what size PSU have you got.

Thanks, if the on board sound card is enabled now, it would not be the problem as the Soundblaster was already removed at that stage. On the occasion it happened earlier in the week yes it had enabled the Sound Card but I disabled it then in the BIOS. Unfortunatly now the machine doesn't even get to to the stage that you can enter the BIOS.

The PSU is a : Coolermaster Real Power 1000w Modular Power Supply
All of the fans appear to be running fine

I've had the computer since January.
