Ive decided im going for a i5 haswell 4670k cpu. Im looking for advice on a motherboard (id idealy like 4 ram slots but no need for any dual gpu scenarios)
Additionally id require 2 x 4 gig ram suitable . Ive 160 to spend on ram and motherboard. Please help as ive not upgraded my rig since core2duo days. Many thanks.:D:D

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte Z87-D3HP Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £109.99
1 x Avexir Core Blue Series 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C10 2400MHz Dual Channel Memory Kit (AVD3U24001004G-2CI) - Blue Light £67.99
Total : £177.98 (includes shipping : FREE).

The Team group RAM is very tall, I'd avoid it so you don't have grief with aftermarket air heatsinks. This Avexir kit isn't very tall at all and does have Blue LEDs to colour code with the mobo. Is over £160 though.

Still over but a little cheaper. The Avexir kit has decent OC potential so will go beyond 1600Mhz but I can't guarantee it will break 2000Mhz. Likewise the Crucial Ballistix Sport can OC too (not aswell as Avexir apparently) and it's on offer for £44

How much of a noticeable difference will I see against my 3.6 c2d daul core 6gig ram P5K mobo and SSD. will I see or notice? Is it worth GPU (gunna be using g 260gtx to game lightly @1080p)

Thanks for the above . Do I need such a good mobo ? What benefit's do I get. Ram is what I had in mind. I willl in the future upgrade my GPU to 660ti , but tbh the 260gtx atm still appears to play well .

Well that clears that up. HD3 does everything i need. Its also considerably cheaper. One thing I am unsure about. Will my freezer pro 775 CPU cooler or xigmatech 775 cooler fit this new CPU and mobo. Thanks in advance. Nice to know people still know their shizt and there are good guys still here. My faith in life restored.

Sorry!! That's the H87-HD3 I clicked the wrong one hayfever isn't helping my eye sight :(

The D3HP has a few extra USB ports, it also has an extra CPU fan header if you wanted to hook up a second fan for push/pull through a heatsink. If your coolers supported 1155/1156 then yes they should be ok for 1150

I've been looking at a Gigabyte H87-HD3 motherboard. Looks OK to me, what makes the D3HP better ?

Ive used the HD3 in a clients build, it does the job but doesnt have the same quality PWM, connectivity and seems to struggle to get to 4.6GHz, 4.4Ghz is best for it.

The D3HP is a great board and Snips spec with the TEAM RAM is spot on.

My D3HP review.

I'm near ready. My preferred cooler, I still have it. Xigmatek SD1283 . can't seem to find reference to 1150 socket. I assume 1155/1156 / 775 will be OK still .

If it has the fittings for socket 1155/56 it will fit, but see my reply above for motherboard choice.

Once again thank you. My overclocking day's are over tbh. It doesn't mean I won't but I'm sure what I've chosen will serve me well and possibly o/c a little. My c2d wolfdale has to be retired , its near 7 years old !!

Who about this to swing it?

The HD3 PCB is more brown, the D3HP is matt black.

:p
