Last night there was a powercut while i had the pc on, i only had the browser open & reading a web page. Today when i try to turn the pc on there's nothing, but looking at the mobo the green led light remains on all the time even with mains lead disconected, its only supposed to be on to indicate power to the mobo & remind you to turn the power off before messing with anything. I asume its taking its power from the little onboard battery, but i dont think its supposed to do this. What could the powercut have done?? any opinions please :(

The mobo is a Asus P5QL-E.

Some motherboards hate being powered off by any means other than the pc's off switch.

The normal cure is to disconnect the PSU from the mains, disconnect the PSU from the motherboard (just unplug the ATX and +12 power cables).

Remove the Cmos battery, and set the jumper to the Cmos CLR position.

Wait 10 minutes, then return everything to normal, and it should start up.

I've had PC's that are annoying like that, and have just put it down to a cmos chip that's easily corrupted by power surges etc.

Thanks guys but i found the reason why it didnt start up although i dont quite understand why.
yesterday i connected up a SATA HDD docking station with card reader built in, it has its own power supply & it seems that with the power supply plugged in (even with the power switch on the back on the unit turned off) its sending power to the mobo & lighting up the LED on the mobo (i found this out by unplugging the power supply & removing the Cmos battery & found the LED was still on). Unplugged the docking station power supply from the mains & pc boots up. Can anyone tell me why this should happen? surly pc should still boot with it plugged in??
