I want a graphics card but have no clue about them at all.

I dont play a lot of games, but will now and again, dont want to spend daft money (8800gts) i think maybe a 512mb ddr3 good alrounder which will go well with my setup and last me 3-4 yrs

Can you please recommend?

Kind Regards Jody

are there any cheaper options?

as it wont get used that much

Eek! But look at that rig... Quad Core, 4Gb, Raptor, Corsair PSU and you don't want to get the GT to finish it off nicely. Crazy talk! :p It's like buying beautiful wallpaper for your kitchen and then giving up and colouring the rest of the walls in by hand.

Complete the rig in style. Go on. :D

i understand your concern firegod, but im not going to use it that much...so not that important to me as yet, i mainly need this rig for my encoding so im trying to save money in that dept if i can

Might be better spending a little more on the gigabyte version which is in stock now, in case the OcUK version doesnt arrive for a while; speed wise, for the money the 3850Pro is a great little card, its about 50% average faster than the 8600GTS, 20-60% faster than an x1950pro depending on game etc. Its generally faster than the old X1900XTX which was the top card really, before the 8800 series came out, so for the price its very good.

I can't see a motherboard in that list, mate. Just a friendly heads up incase you've forgotten to add one to your budget. :)

Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 & DDR3 Motherboard

thinking about this mobo, any idea how good?

where can you get them for that kind of money? i cant see them at oc's

You're not allowed to mention competitors here, but in any case I think he's mistaken as I've never seen a 3870 that cheap.

You'll be very happy with the 3850 512mb
