Hi In Windows7 I am having the following issues, in the last 24 hours, not made any changes to my PC

It works on in Safe Mode but in normal mode:
PC freezes when on the welcome screen.
PC fails to start and an error message comes up.
PC freezes while on the PC just after start up.
PC freezes when PC has been on for 30 minutes or more.

Any advice appreciated from the PC Pros

I am planning to re-seat components, reset cmos, swap out 1 stick of ram and check Windows 7 is intact

I guess PSU, Ram and mb are the usual suspects.

Thanks jpod

PC fails to start and an error message comes up.

What does the message say?

Was there any software or driver updates prior to the freezes?

Have you run any virus/malware software to check for any infections?

Hi not sure what the messages says, it is a PC of a friend and I am gong to have a go at fixing it laters.

No driver updates or software.

Not run any virus/malware checks so far.

Thanks for posting all help appreciated.

I am planning to re-seat components

Make sure to include re-seating the CPU and adding new thermal paste. A computer I had was experiencing the same symptoms you described. Tried just about everything (else). Then I thought might as well re-seat CPU, and problem was solved.

Hi so far:

I fired up the PC and it started, stopped, started, stopped, then it had a go at last know good, and a go at a repair.

Now it simply does an spin up and stop, over and over.

I have tested the PSU, thats fine

1 module then the other, no change

I have reseated the CPU

Tried without the optical drive

Did the cmos thing.

I think it is the motherboard - I think it was an intermittent fault whilst my friend had it and now the mb is kaput - time to replace.

Do the Pro's concur?

Cheers pod
