Advise please

Hi all,

Its been a few years since i've upgraded components of my computer, but whilst playing Total War Warhammer 3, it came up with a warning about my GPU (I never replaced it the last time I bought parts for my pc).

I know I need to replace the GPU, but can someone who is better at computer builds than I see if anything else needs bringing up to date?.

AMD Ryzen 7 2700 Eight-Core Processor, 3650 Mhz, 8 Core
B450 TOMAHAWK (MS-7C02)
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970
Corsair CMK16GX4M2B3200C16 Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4 3200 MHz
An old Corsair 800w power supply
Corsair CW-9060031-WW Hydro Series H150i PRO RGB Liquid CPU Cooler
Corsair Carbide Series SPEC-OMEGA RGB Midi Tower Case - White


I'm leaning towards a MSI 3070 TI GPU, but the prices are just crazy at the moment and slightly concerned it will fit in my case with my cooler?

TPU did a review of this game recently, which might help you decide what graphics card to buy and what to expect (for reference: the GTX 970 is similar to the 6500 XT, at least if it is in PCI-E 4.0 motherboard). Unfortunately the review does not include CPU scaling.

You will likely need to update the bios to allow compatibility with Ryzen 5000 series but that board has ez flash so you just need a USB stick.

graphics card wise get signed up to the alerts for a 3060ti, 3070 and 3070ti, maybe even the 3080 FE models as well.
 
The advice you have been given above is correct. Update bios then get 5600/5800 and a new gpu and you are good to go.

I have been playing WH3 for past few days and the performance with my system is excellent (see sig for specs
) and other than the alt tab crashes I have had no issues at all. I know a lot of Nvidia owners are having issues but I have not had any with my AMD RX 6800.

Edit - I play at 3440x1440p with pretty much everything as it was auto detected to be which was Ultra settings. I turned off motion blur and I may have turned off SSAO but not sure. I do not check my fps when playing but there has not been a single point where I got slow downs that show low fps.
Not seen any benchmarks for the game yet and I know 3080 was faster than 6800 in WH2 but I am frankly shocked how well it is running on my PC.

Go look at the support page for your chassis and look at the max size for the GPU.

if that's your case, says max length gpu is 370mm, then you'll have to subtract cooler. The MSI 3070ti ventus is 305mm long, so you should have the space. Easiest way, open case and measure it as your cooler is already there.

regarding gpu, have you sub'd to FEpartalert for an FE card? Europe had a big drop yesterday, a lot of 3070 and 3070ti...might get a UK drop soon then
