Hi guys,

Just need a little bit of advice on a mobo. The mobo i have now, i got because i was thinking of going Sli, but now i'm thinking i'm not sure if i really want to go that route, and happy with just buying one really good GFX card, also then using less power / less heat, the games i play at the moment run fine with the 8800GTX i have there anyway...

There was a problem with the mobo which i found when i got it, some of you may have read my post on the mobo's thread when i found the problem. The PCIe slot which would be used for Sli dosen't work at all, i'm not sure what else could be wrong on the board too. Also i will loose my sound card too if i go Sli on that board, also the mobo i have does get pretty hot too, and have no choice but to place the 8800GTX on the lowest slot, which would be better for cooling if i had it placed on the slot closest to the CPU.

i haven't overclocked the CPU yet but want to, and the questions i wanted to ask were:

1) If i upgrade my mobo, which one should i go for do you think, which is good with the build i have and good for overclocking the Q6600? I do prefer ASUS boards :) I heard the x38/P35 boards are good, but not sure which model would be best.

2) The CPU cooler i have, would that be okay if i was overclocking to say 3/3.2? Its quite a beasty CPU cooler so i'm sure it should cope?

This is my current build:

Asus P5N-T Deluxe nForce 780i (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Gamer 7.1 Sound Card - Retail
Western Digital Raptor 150GB 10000RPM SATA 16MB Cache
Samsung SM-226BW 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Glossy Black
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 64-Bit
Western Digital Caviar SE16 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache
BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC2 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI
Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz
Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU
Zalman CNPS9700-LED CPU Cooler
Gigabyte 3D Aurora 570 Black No PSU
Samsung SH-S203NBEBN 20x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer Lightscribe ReWriter x2

Thanks a lot for any help :)

Budget isn't too much of an issue tbh, the reason for this being, i'd rarther pay a little more to get the best i could for my build, the Maximus Extreme got some nice reviews around but have seen some people complain about that board on here.

I don't mind going for an x38 if they are better

Hmm okay Well my choices would be :

Asus Maximus Formula Intel X38
(i don't mind paying a bit more for the Asus Maximus Extreme Intel X38 if its worth it, if this is advised i'll do that, what are the main advantages?)

.
.
Well that narrows it down :) I'll either get one or the other, would i get the best out of the build i have with the Extreme one? for stick to Formula? hmm..

The P5K-Premium or even the cheaper P5K Pro will do the job very well. Both have the 8-phase power design and are excellent for overclocking the quads.

Hmm the Asus P5K Premium WiFi-AP has got some nice reviews as well yeah, So its either that or the Maximus Formula/extreme

Oh i heard that "The CPU footprint is a bit cramped and will not allow you to use all coolers with the CPU" for the ASUS Maximux Extreme. The CPU cooler i have:

Zalman CNPS9700-LED CPU Cooler

I was wondering if anyone can confirm if my CPU cooler will fit okay?

I was thinking of going for the Extreme for the long run.

Just bought the Formula ^^
