Ordered some of these as a result of a general upgrade of my sound system and also in part, due to the forum hype.

Tried a mixture of mp3s, flac, ogg and CD files. In essence, the speakers produce a very good, very rich, full bodied, mutilayered sound. It's similar to the sound produced by some good quality bookshelf speakers and decent quality amp (the Aego's have an built in amp) in the sub £200 price range.

It's easy to pick out the different instruments and bass is present if you want it (High, Medium, Low settings) without it being overly dominant. The sound can easily fill a very large room and distortion at high volumes is minimal. Rich, full bodied, and layered would be words that spring to mind. The speakers perhaps emphasise percussion and high frequencies over vocals and midrange but its only a small criticism.

Vastly superior to the my £150 Altec 6021s, and lightyears ahead of the TDK NXT flat panel speakers (which were pretty crap) and the Logitech 2300/Z3e's that I owned previously.

These speakers definitely show up any limitations in your sound card. Tried them with Realtek ALC850 onboard audio, Audigy 2 ZS and the difference is like night and day. Would have coupled them with my X-Fi, but that soundcard doesn't seem to work with my A8N premium motherboard. I just wonder whether an X-Fi would allow these speakers to pick out more subtleties to CD source in the way that you would hear with a high end seperates system.

The line in input at the front of the sub-woofer is also handy for plugging in an iPod or other MP3 player. For music buffs, this is very impressive 2.1 speaker set. Overall, I'd give it 4.5/5.
