Quick question, can anyone crank these to max volume without suffering distortion in their music?

First I thought it was the due to the quality of the mp3 files so I tried with cd's but it was the same. :(

Does this mean although the volume actually goes that high, the speakers can't handle it?

I would guess that it is a case of the amplifier for the speakers having a low input sensitivity and the output of your source having a relatively high output level.

I can't find the input sensitivity for the Aego M, but the Aego T states that it has an input sensitivity of 300mV(rms?) for the rated full output. Assuming that the Aego M is also 300mV(rms?) and that you have an X-fi or Audigy 2, which I believe have an output level of 2Vrms, it should be fairly easy to see that the amplifier would then be at it's limits a fair while before the volume knob on the amplifier / speakers gets turned up all the way.

In addition to this, I have found that the X-fi, at least, seems to need the master volume turned down to about 75-80% to avoid some rather hideous distortion if you have the EQ turned on. Though this is very noticeable at low volumes, in my experience, and so it's likely not related to your problem.

Either way, try lowering the master volume on your sound card.
