Hi All,

My first post here, so be gentle :)

I've just bought some aego m's from OcUK, and would like to know the best method of connecting my PC to them. I know I can just use line out. But would like to obtain the best possible sound.

I've got spdif out, and 7.1. So want to know whether anyone out there is connecting from one of these options to the RCA inputs on the m's?.

Also, does anyone have any opinions of the aego m's when connected to an xbox 360?

Your comments will be gratefully recieved!

Thanks

John

you got 7 speakers of the aego m's or you mean you have 7.1 output card ?

if you mean you just have the 2 speakers plus the sub ( like myself ) i'd personally say stick with the line-in.

only reason i say this is going by what they say when listen in 2.1 on home cinema sytems. if the dvd player has a set of dedicated phono sockets always use those instead of optical when only 2 channel as thats how you get the best sound.

so going on that principle i'd say stick with line-in as the 7.1 is not dedicated 2 channel.

Thanks Talon, sorry I should have clarified I have a 7.1 Card. Do you lose any quality with the line in?

Thanks

John

Welcome :)

Plain stereo line-out from a single jack on the sound card is obviously the way they're expected to be used. If I recall, they can also accept an additional center speaker signal, but it's best to forget about that and toggle it off on the back of the sub. Disable any surround / 5.1 / 7.1 software settings on the PC.

You'll likely be getting good quality from your sound card's line-out, but if you wanted to go all-out, you could add a separate DAC between the PC's S/PDIF digital output and the Aego M. Debatable whether it would be worth the money involved.

For a free tweak, it's worth investigating the way in which Windows might be messing with the sound, and the solutions (ASIO, kernel streaming, bypass Kmixer, etc)

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the helpful responses, I daren't embarrass myself by mentioning the soundcard, as the speakers porbably flatter it!

But yeah, I got the speaker set today, and overall, I am impressed. Powerful enough with plenty of clarity.

So, I have forgotten about the centre input, and I will just enjoy them!

i was just asking because if your so worried about which inputs will give you the best quality, by doing so you are just going to be able to hear the bad quality of your soundcard - even better !

if it is onboard sound i would advise even any kind of pci soundcard.
that will make the biggest difference in sound quality i guarantee it :)
what is it that you have ?
