Does such a thing exist? I can't seem to find anything! Just to help with focussing in low light, but without having a full-on flash on top of the camera...

ST-E2 might be a good option for Canon, like SU 800 is for Nikon, but by the time you put 4 AA's in it, you might as well have a full blown flash, and it seems a bit expensive for an AF assist.
I would prefer something like the Helios prototype before it became Odin.

Canon make one call ST-E2 , but it's about £150.

Cheaper to buy an old flash and turn off the flash.

A main flash can be a bit big and cumbersome though, I'd be interested if anyone knows of a solution.

It's like you are going round in circles all by yourself. :D

I've got a 5D MkII, as of yesterday :p And thanks Ray... Bit more than I wanted to spend... Are there no alternative brands? :(

Yongnuo also do their own version of the ST-E2 which is about £60, but I've been using my YN-622C for this, and you can get a pair for £60 from Uk sellers on EBay.
