Affordable monitor, that can compete with an Apple Display?

According to that Apple product page you're talking about a calibrated reference monitor with insane options for accuracy. I'd say most other products aren't going to promise the same experience - or should I say, you need to look at reference monitors specifically. Maybe even expect to have whatever you buy tested or calibrated, but I think it's become common for high end monitors to come with a calibration certificate.

You won't be looking at "ordinary" PC monitors. The resolution is also pretty odd, not sure I've seen that used on anything before.

Asus do a range of Proart monitors with very good specs, the top and models aren’t cheap though. Probably the nearest comparable.

Yeah that's a good alternative, the Asus Pro Art screens. While expensive, they are half the price of the Apple monitor

The model that's closest in spec to the Apple xdr is the Asus Pro art PA32UCG-K

You'll struggle to find anything much cheaper than the Asus that's still a professional colour monitor without sacrificing features and specs ; that level of product is just expensive all round
