So I’m after a 34 inch curved monitor I’ve narrowed it down to 3.

They seem pretty similar should I just go with the cheapest?

choices are -

AOC CU34G2X/BK - £449

iiyama g master red eagle GB3466WQSU B1 - £429

Gigabyte G34WQC-EK - £455

I like the sound of the Gigabyte one personally. I also like the fact it has integrated speakers.

All 3 use the same Samsung panel, IIRC. Gigabyte is said to have more blurry movement than other monitors with same panel. According to PCMonitors.info, AOC has slightly more blurry text due to subpixel orientation or screen coating, can't remember. Iiyama had flicker issues in GSync compatible mode, allegedly it's rectified with firmware update but some say they're still present...though, GSync flicker is pretty much universal for these monitors and very unpredictable.

So...pick your poison, it's pretty much the same. Choose based on your preferences, prices, availability and warranty...

They'll all be blurry and smeary. It's VA, it's what VA does.

These cheap "144hz" VA panels are a marketing gimmick, when dark level transitions often take up to 30ms to complete. That's 33 Hz, not 144+.

What use is "deep blacks" (an oft-quoted selling point of VA) when any transition involving dark pixels leaves a blurry trail on your screen...

"Deep blacks on still images" doesn't quite have the same ring to it tho :p

Nah, I'd take IPS glow every day of the week over the blurry, smeary mess that is typical of VA.

Funny you should say this as I’ve been playing Alien Isolation on my IPS and have dubbed the IPS glow as ‘unacceptable’ compared to my VA panel Samsung TV.

The monitor market is supremely annoying as there are just too many compromises on everything. The two best choices I’ve been weighing up this morning:

- 32” Samsung G7. Fast VA screen, but 90 ppi curved potato at £650ish.

- 35” ASUS PG35VQ. Ok VA screen, improved 106ppi and less curved but £2,300ish.

I could pick the G7 and a new OLED and have cash to spare!! But then I’d still have a potato and and OLED, which I don’t need.

The ASUS ticks the most boxes but it outrageously expensive. I am typically willing to spend ££££ on quality things but DANG that’s too aggressive for me.

I’m kind of just sat here willing a company to take my money to end this painful experience of the crap monitor market :(

Further to my post above, I did just end up buying an MSI MPG Artemis 343CQR - a new 34” UWQHD 1000R curve VA panel.

It was £900.

Arrives Monday from a place that typically has no nonsense returns. Really hoping that it will be worth the punt as there is little info on it from the usual reputable sources.

It's quite a common sentiment. The monitor market really is ass.

I think for me the 34GN850 (21:9 IPS) or the 27" MSI Optix something-something-dash-QD (16:9 IPS) are about the best on the market atm. But even then, the LG is close to OLED money, and nowhere near OLED quality.

The MSI is £500, which even then is a bit much for a 27" LCD. So in the end I either wait for a BF deal or see what price the new 42" OLED screens release at (might not even be this year...)

But yeah, right now, everything sucks :p Wouldn't touch a VA monitor tho.

Ah I think we cross posted as I ended up getting one (see above) - we’ll see how I get on :p

I've just ordered the 343CQR, how is it?

I'll be using it for work mostly - so clarity of text in word, excel, browser, PDFs is important

Hi mate - sorry I posted this across other threads; I got cold feet and went for the Samsung G7, cancelling the MSI. I was too worried about ghosting, but I think I was probably making it more of an issue for myself than it actually is! The 1440p resolution of the MSI should be great.
