After a compact budget laptop

hi all, laptops arent my thing so i have no idea whats in the market.

Specs-

at least 750mhz
512mb ram
inbuilt wi-fi
around 50gb hdd (although i have a sata 2.5 60gb left over from my ps3 :-) )
reasonable battery life (5h or so)

as you can tell its not powah! iam after the main thing is that it needs to be a very compact size certainly 12'' or less (the lower the better). But not a EEE ive tried one and its just a bit too basic.

Its just to be used as a web browser or plug in a usb mouse for some old half life or red alert when i cant be arsed to turn on my main rig and watch it suck power from nearby streetlamps and superheat my room.

max budget £250 (ish.)
 
5 hours out of a battery is more "impressive" than "reasonable", so bear that in mind. Your best bet is a second-hand Thinkpad X-series, have a look around for one.
 
I haven't looked at laptops in a few years and back then they weren't far off 4h so i guess i mistakenly presumed that things had moved a bit further on.

3-4h would be acceptable.
 
What about those new Advent 4211 for £279.99?
Atom processor so it should have reasonable battery life, gig of ram, and 80GB HD. Should cover off roughly what you're looking for.
(Think of it as an EEE on steroids)

Try out the MSi Wind, or the Advent 4211. They are around 275 and have a 10 inch screen, 80gb hdd , xp , around 4-5 hrs battery life claimed , 512mb RAM.

It might just be what you looking for (I personally do not like the non-upgradability of these units.)

Also the Acer One , 8.9 inch screen though, or the new eee-pc 1000 (10 inch screen).
 
Glad to help, be aware they are very tight in supply right now (they're a rebadged MSI wind thats cheaper with a smaller battery, they're even firmware compatible), so if you see one come in on the collect@store system, or in store, grab it there and then, because someone else will with the way demand is right now (we got 3 in last week, 6 in this week, they all sold both times within 5 hours, no joke) lol
