With summer rapidly approaching and the weather getting (slightly) better, i'm after a fan for my room. Either a tower or normal blade fan, fairly quiet but decent cooling as well.

I've seen a Bionaire Tower Fan for around £55 at a high street store, just wondering what these tower fans are like, or does anyone have any recommendations on a fan they have got/used?

In really hot weather a fan soon becomes pointless, when the air temperature of the room is pretty high, all you end up doing is blowing warm hair over yourself. The only way to then get wind-chill to cool you down again is to have the fan on full blast 6 inches from your face.

Just wear lose thin clothing, and go outside and enjoy the sun. If you need to be at your PC all day and your room gets unbearably hot, then your only real solution is an air conditioning unit.

Not gonna be in my room all day with work, but i'm after a fan for when i am in my room, like at night. A fan does cool my room down pretty well and I did have a fan but it broke, so just after a decent one before the summer comes. :)

Edit: lol @ surfsquid :D

A good solution for you then would be to keep your blinds/curtains and window closed in your room all day. Rooms heat up in summer due to the sunlight beating down through the window and heating up the room.

Anyone remember the desk fan someone modified with a 'water exchanger'?

Basically it was a coil of copper pipe across the front and the 2 ends were placed in a bucket of ice water with a pump working the water around the circuit.

Looked pretty good IMO.

I've got one of these and its pretty good, the multiple speed settings are really useful on the highest speed it can be pretty noisy.
I think mines 2yrs old now, bring it out for summer and then shove it in a cupboard for the rest of the year.
