After a format

It doesnt make a whole lot of difference however some programs require certain windows updates to be installed first. Some usb mice need SP2 instaledl prior to installing mouse driver. ATI catalyst control center requires .net to be installed or installation wont work; and SP2 is a pre-requisite for .net.

If u are installing windows xp, u could save a few restarts with windows update by downloading autopatcherXP (u need november full + all subsequent updates extracted, then run the updater).

I like to go directx9c (febuary), motherboard (and this includes sound and network for me), sp2 + updates, graphics card driver, mouse driver, monitor driver, cpu driver.

Cheers guys. The third time I have installed windows 2000 now, I install my motherboard and LAN drivers then reboot and windows halts when getting back in saying there is corrupt or missing files in a system32 directory and I need to run repair from windows boot cd. I was wondering if it is because I need to have something else installed first.

There is a version of autopatcher for windows 2000 too. Install the latest service pack to start with. As I said some drivers will need a later service pack before they work.

It will be trial and error for u to find the correct order to install. It really shouldnt be so hard though. Perhaps try reading the notes regarding the driver u want to install. Failing that use some kind of ghost program to get an image of the drive prior to installing anything so u can get quickly to that point again if things go wrong.
