Hey fellas,
I'm after a modular PSU that's very quiet, and very tidy.

You see, in a bid to silence my system, I've replaced the 120mm fans, mounted the HDD on bungee cord, passively cooled the GPU and 7volted the cpu fan. I also took the PSU apart :D cleaned it up, oiled the fans (was going to replace the 80mm fan but ordered the wrong width :() Unfortuntately, the common for the fans was connected to something, but I've no idea what. So I've had to connect it to the neg lead joining two PCBs by soldering a bit of wire, insulating it with a bit of leccy tape.

It's a Hiper 550w anyway, so with my added 'modification' I'd like to get something more trustworthy (and quiet!) in there :p Also, the blue LEDS now stay on when you turn the system off until you flick the rocker switch, odd!

System specs are:

ASUS A8R32 MVP Deluxe
AMD X2 3800+
ATI X1800
2gb G.Skill RAM
1 x SATA HDD
1 x DVD-RW
1 x Wi-Fi LAN PCI card

Will this suffice : OCZ ModXStream Pro 400w

Other suggestions appreciated!

if you're looking for a quiet and reliable PSU then check out the zalman PSU's.they are heatpipe cooled so the fans only spins really really slow.you cant barely hear it even if your ear is next to the unit.

Thanks for (breif! :p) posts so far :)

What wattage would you suggest considering the system?

Is the OCZ one not very suitable then?

One of the Zalmans would be good but even the smallest one at 500w is overkill for your rig. I would suggest one of the new Enermax Pro or Modu 82+ 425w jobbies. I have the 385w Pro version in my second pc and it really is superb. These are setting new standards in efficiency and are hitting up to 90% efficiency at 50% load. Here are a couple of reviews for you:-

Enermax Pro 82+ (385W) PSU

Enermax MODU 82+ 625W

Personally i would'nt touch a OCZ as i had a 700w GameXstream blow up after only 10 days.
