After a serious Gamer

Ok, I am a jealous git.

I just got given a LapTop ( Packard Bell E3242 ) and Im not a laptop fan by any stretch of the imagination, but this is fun... Thats all, just fun. Im not using it in any serious way, but now my mate has just got himself a better one!

Im a jealous tart so I thought sod it... and Im considering getting a seriously TOTR LapTop just to bug him... And Install Windows ME onto it to really drill him in!

What could you recommend to me?

Im looking at the MSI GX600 or even the Dell XPS M1730 but while I can get away with the MSI, I doubt I can justify the Dell purely to annoy my mate as once I have finished with it, the wife is getting the Laptop for her internet, so its a couple of grand down the drain.

Anyway, anyone care to offer anything else that will do the trick for a great price?

M1730 is the daddy, but for a more reasonable price why not look at the M1530? Can be had for around the £500 mark at the lower end of the specification scale, and all models come with a 8600M GT.

Yes, perhaps you're right.

I just had another look through some of those and I see that the Dell ones are the only ones offering 3 years!!! - the others are 1 and a few are 2 years!

Not much hope with LapTops only offering 1 year after seeing for myself half a dozen dead HP's that are only just 13 Months old

This is the one thats most likely then at this time.

Dell XPS M1530 Intel Core 2 Duo T8300 2.40GHz 15.4"

Seems a good compromise, allowing some half decent gaming, plenty to show off, and at half the price of the 1730 not too much of a punch in the wallet

Comparing it with the 1730 range, its kind of a grand more just to have a 17" screen???

When I get it, I will Windows ME it and all I want is for Solitaire to pop up on startup and Im away...

No, the setup I have bought, cost me a grand.

Its not just that... The wife wants a new LapTop anyway, I want one thats not a pile of junk, so Iit will get its use for sure, but the Installation of Windows ME and running of Solitaire is purely because its a kind of in-joke...

I mean, the number of people that have a PC that does what they need it to, but they upgrade anyway, most want dual core etc etc etc, with a Top Of the Range GFX Card and the most stress the PC ever gets is Solitaire... So its an in-joke really.

Vivid sense of humour or Minted? LOL Both and neither at the same time.

I should be minted but I have a wife, 3 kids, a Mortgage, a car and 2 motorbikes, then there is my unnatural love for computers that are old and decrepid ( Atari Falcon & TT - both over 15 years old and both have had over a grand thrown at them in the last 12 months ).

I cannot afford it... Not really, but why not treat myself sometimes?

And yes I am only getting such a machine just to annoy my mate yes, that part is true... Its something we have done to each other for years... He gets then I get then he gets then I get... Ad infinitum.
