Hi All,

First post on here for awhile and am hoping you guys can offer some suggestions/ideas for a project i’m about to embark on.

I’ve recently got myself a house with the missus and am going through the decorating lark, she’s wanting to put feature walls and flowery wall paper everywhere which i reluctantly agreed to on the condition i get a ‘man cave’ or ‘manctuary’ – and that man cave is the reason i’m here.

I’m not as up to speed on latest technology as i should be but i’ve always had a soft spot for flashy gadgets and impressive home systems. So I’m just after some guidance to make the most of my setup, avoiding massive price tags where possible.

So the kit i want to get in the room:
Xbox (with kinect)
PS3
Wii
Beer fridge
Seating
Big screen (thinking it’ll need to be a pull down with projector)
Surround sound
Media PC (potentially if there is any benefit having it in there and the spec is suitable)

Generally the room will be used for a variety of manly type things, drinking, watching films with lots of explosions, watching footy, chilling putting the world to right, mucking about on kinect while drunk etc etc.

So that’s the brief as such. All to fit in a room which is 3.3m (L) by 2.4m (W) which I know is not huge but the long term goal is to convert the double garage and get a pool table so if the stuff can be transferred that would be ideal. To make things difficult, one end of the room has a door smack in the middle and the opposite wall has a window (which is why i’m thinking projector screen)

Thanks for reading, and hopefully I’ve put this in the right section :p

If you're on a budget then...

Onkyo HTS3405 3D capable AV amp & speaker package - c. £300

Optoma 1080p projector + ceiling bracket & screen - c £1000

Cables - approx £100

games consoles - well you can price/buy them separately

seats - Ikea

beer fridge - epay or similar

media PC - I wouldn't bother. Get a media player and portable harddrive and just play movies from that. Hook up a laptop for surfing on the big screen if that's what you want.

Add some basic lighting control (£50-£100) and some low voltage halogens with decent transformers (£100'ish) and a bit of remote control colour change LED strip for effects lighting (£30-£50)

Add a Harmony remote to make the basics easy to control and tie in the lighting (£70-£100)

Chuck in a couple of Cat5 cables to get a live net connection in to the room for online gaming and updates.
