I need some advice on building a pc for my son, currently I am an alienware laptop owner previously I built my own pc's to play games the last one I built was about 5-6 yrs ago and I think it was an intel i7 cpu have posted a couple of piccys of the beast

anyway onto my dilema, my son is just starting university he is studying art and media, video editing etc he also like's gaming ( wow and eve ) so I want to build him a pc that will play games to a good standard and also edit and render video in less than a week :).
the problem I have is knowing what spec parts to buy for this machine I am kind of out of touch now. he does not want a pc the same size as the beast I had he is after something more compact, but powerful and able to do the above.

any advice would be appreciated, price is an option I would like to keep the cost to say sub £600

Thanks

Is he going away to uni ? I have this case and I love it but its not a case to move around as it the size of a small wardrobe :)

If he is not going away or you are ok moving it around I would stick with the case after a good clean out it will be fine that will drop the cost of a new case and change to an ATX Bundle and up memory to 2 x 8 gig sticks ( just give OCUK a call to do this ) and with the other bits listed you will be good to go.

What with the state of their RMA and warranty support at the moment I'd steer clear of NZXT stuff. Not worth the risk for the few £'s you save imo.

Ah I see ... I thought you still had the HAF X in the photo .... in that case the Corsair Carbide Series Air 240 gets a +1 from me ... I have had a close up look at the 240 and 540 a few weeks back and they both looked very nice cases indeed I did however favour the 540 :)
