After interview, how long before you hear back?

Just wondering what people's experiences are with regard to job hunting. Usually after an interview I hear back within a few days max. This was 3 years back mind as I've been in the same job since then!

I have a few interviews lined up next week and had one last week (wed). Its been 8 days now and I've phoned the agency and they keep saying "We'll find out tmrw hopefully" but alas nothing so far..

Does anyone work as an interviewer here? Why does it take so long!! They finished interviewing last week on friday so surely you would know who you want to employ after the last interview? How does it take a week!! I'm assuming they had more candidates come over this week, or have offered it to someone else and are leaving the others hanging until that person officially accepts it (incase he turns them down!) and thats what takes the time.

Soooo... Whats the longest you have had to wait for a job offer after an interview? And why does it take them that long do you reckon? Conspiracy theories welcome about what HR in companies do to take days, weeks, months to decide :D

6 weeks...was hilarious. i applied for a bar role at a hotel. Telling them i wanted to work for the summer hols during my Uni break.

The interviewers were quite stupid.

I received my job offer the week before i was due to go back to uni.

STUPID people, in management roles

I went for 2 roles within the company I work for. Didn't hear back from either within 6 weeks.

Completely true.. once I waited 6 months! I went for the interview in May, it went ok it was one of the longest interviews I have ever had. But a couple of days later I hear that someone else has got the job from a friend who worked within the compnay. I wasn't happy but thats life and you move on.

So I sat back awaiting my quality, "The standard was extremely high and unfortunatly you have not been successfull.... this time" letter. And I waited and gave them a few phone calls to see what the hell was going on, mainly just to annoy them. They always said, someone would get back to you. I gave up on ringing them cause it was only out of annoyance of not having formally heard anything. But yea.. It finally came in November!!!!!!

Thankfully i wasn't holding my breath for that one! :D

I do believe that it is because they are still interviewing, or are yet to deicide, or need someone elses opinion on who to hire before they can decide. Or, as you said, they could be waiting for their number one choice to get back to them.

Quite often agencies will be pushing for a number of people, and as a result the pressure from the recruitment agency causes the delay.

It also depends on the type of job you are going for.

Currently waiting back on a reply from a company I went for my 2nd interview with yesterday afternoon. They said I'd know by yesterday evening, and as I haven't I may take it as a bad sign.

They had already whittled it down to 3 candidates, and I was the last to be interviewed... sooo...

I was told I'd hear back on monday! HR just seems strange to me!! In the past I've been offered jobs in the interview or the next day. Suppose as you apply for jobs worth more money it may take longer? Ah well, I'll just prepare to go for the other interviews and play it as it comes! It will be sods law that I will accept a lesser role next week only to get offered the role I really wanted last week the day after or something :D

Pretty similar here, i've got another company lined up, but the commute is further, and the job isn't "quite" as good. But sods law says i'll get two offers at the same time.

ive not had many interviews..actually 2 and both times i got the job. first response was next day and the second was just over a week.
