After Market coolers

Hello, I'm in the middle of my first build and when I came to fitting the big ol after market cooler I found it impeeded the channel 1&2 of the ram slots so I just placed the ram in 3&4. (should I be compensating for this?!!) Also the cooling fan was pointing down?! Not to the back of the case as I would expect. Are these two issues common? Or should I be looking at replacing the big ol cooler? Its a Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2 CPU Cooler btw

Ram will be OK.
Is it an intel or AMD build?
If its AMD you may have no choice due to the cooler mounting bracket on the motherboard AFAIK.

Yeah it's AMD...it just didn't look right..and the last thing I want to do on my first build is just go for it and be left with a pile of smouldering rubble
