Was not sure whether to post this in this section of the forums or in the Graphics cards section or Monitors section, mods feel free to move if required.

I'm running Vista Ultimate 32bit with an ATI X1900XT 512Mb on an Octigen 17" Widescreen TFT monitor.

Everytime I reboot/restart the system, my display resolution changes to a lower one from the default 1440x900 that is the native res for my monitor.

Its only just started doing this recently and I have no idea why its happening.

When I go into the Cat Control Center and look at what res I can change to, I dont see an option for 1440x900. Everything else but not that res. The strange thing is this happened last night and when I went into the CCC then, the option to change back to 1440x900 was there, but today it's vanished??!!!.

It's starting to get annoying now!!!

The drivers I'm using are these ones:-

As you can see from the picture below, there's no 1440x900 option in the drop down menu shown:-

Hopefully someone can help and advise on this as it's driving me up the wall!!!:mad:

Just tried updating to the latest Cat drivers from the ATI website but still no joy.

I'm going to roll back to the first set of drivers I installed on this machine for this card and see if that helps any.

I'm guessing it could possibly be a driver issue, something to do with the latest ATI drivers that are out?. Not sure. :(

Do you not have drivers for your monitor as you've got standard VGA at the mo? This would help the card in determining what the monitor can do and might help.

Was thinking along those lines m8, yes.

Been to the Octigen website and cant find any monitor driver downloads though?.

The annoying thing is that previous to this issue I'm having now, I had not actually installed or downloaded any drivers for the monitor from Octigen and it was working fine?.

I've rolled back to the first set of drivers from ATI that I used for this card but it's not made any difference at all. :(

I honestly don't know what to try next.

This is sooooooo annoying!!!!

I think my only option is a complete backup and reformat/reinstall of Vista.

I've been sat here for most of tonight trying various things to fix this but to no avail.

A complete wipe and fresh start would appear to be the only solution.

Finally managed to work around this problem.

I used Powerstrip and manually added a "custom resolution" of 1440x900.

After rebooting, its now back to how it was at 1440x900.

Still completely baffled as to why the option for 1440x900 vanished in the first place when it had been working without any problems for months previously.
