after psu to fit a media center case? but planing to put i7 chip in mb so prob need somit at least 600w but needs to be about half the size of normal psu?

If its for your friends HP I am concerned it may be designed only for that case. This has been asked in the past.

You could get away with a 220w PSU with a lower end i5 without overclocking and not using a external GPU.

ta m8 he prob better off just selling the thing and doing new build or just leaving how it is lol,all ready put him ssd in it runs fine for what it is,he just wants spend his xmas bonus on somit lol

Why do you think an i7 needs at least a 600W PSU?

I have here a server / media box with an i3 2120 CPU, 2 WD digital blacks on an HW RAID controller for the OS and 4 WD digital greens for data / media running on Asus ITX P8H77-I (using on-board graphics).

At idle the” measured” power consumption is around 40 to 45W, running prime 95 (100%) with all disks spinning the rig consumes around 80W. The whole rig is powered by a Pico 160, which I now consider overrated for this system.

OK the i7 is approx. double the power consumption of my i3 but that can’t explain why you are looking to get what I consider to be a huge PSU for a media box. :D
