After some help screen recording

HI i am not very savvy on macs and apples software, my son is wanting to record gameplay footage with sound, i think the issues he is having is with the actual recording of the sound most bits of software say you need to install extra software (soundflower) i think.

is there anyone on here who records their gameplay complete with game sound, and if so how did you do it?
