Folks,

I'm about to purchase a new car and I really want leather. However, getting the car I want with leather will involve a factory order and a lengthy wait. A local dealer has a car in stock that suits me just fine in every way other than the cloth seats.

The dealer has suggested they arrange aftermarket leather and has said they do these reasonably regularly. They claim the results will be as good as the factory-fitted stuff (well they would ;) ) and the price is about the same.

They've also said the stuff they use works with the side airbags.

Has anyone had any experience with aftermarket leather? My concern is it wouldn't be as durable as fictory fitted stuff and ends up looking carp in no time.

Cheers.

It would really depend on what leather they use wouldnt it
You could always ask to see some of there finished products(if they have any there) and ask to see the leather they use. It might help if you bring someone that knows something about leather with you aswell :)

when my mate bought his M3 he got the dealer to change the leather as it was in kiwi yellow :( , so they redid it in red. (black paintwork)

that was done about 18mths ago and its still fine. i guess it depends on the quality of the work and the quality of the leather. :)

Depends on the grade of leather they are using and the company doing the work. I know a lot of dealers use a company called schaffino leather do a very good job for a good price.

Good link that GT3, really like the leather in that Mk2 MX5, might be something to consider for the future :)
