Clk sound is lacking
As far as I can tell it has 2 6.5 compnent speakers is the front if the door
2 four inch speakers in the back of the door

And 2 6" speakers in the boot.

The rear channel seems to be boot speakers and 4"s.

What's good? It's just going to be powered from the headunit.

Thinking of just doing the doors and disconnecting the parcel speakers and getting a amp and sub for bass.

So to recap, it's had its exhaust butchered, it's failed its MOT, it has no power because of a sticky valve, it's in limp mode, and now its sound is lacking.

No the exhaust is fine, it did fail its mot on lights that just needed adjusting at least it didn't need welding, bushes, tyres. The super charger bypass was sticking, common problem with these cars, maf was dirty causing limp another common problem.

And yes the surrounds of the speakers have perished, again quite common with old car speakers.

What model/year CLK? What is the headunit? Stock one?
If you buy some replacement speakers the main things to think about are:

1: Adapters. You might need adapters to actually make aftermarket ones fit, or to adapt your current stock ones to help new ones fit. This will become obvious upon door card removal where you can inspect what they are like.
2: Size/depth of speakers. Too deep and they might not even fit as they may hit say the electric window glass or mechanism or something.
3: Sensitivity, and other specs of the speakers. Often people buy aftermarket speakers which aren't as sensitive as the stock ones, and then are disappointed to find they sound very weak running off of a head unit, rather than an amplifier.
4: Whether to get coaxials or component speakers. Components can be more involved to install. Depends what currently is in place. I've not seen the inside of a CLK.

Often one of those tasks that you think will be nice and straightforward, like for like swap and ends up hours of faffing and swearing, things not lining up, rattles and plastic squeak.
Good luck.

I think you should just phone up Vanquis and ask them to increase your credit limit so you can buy another car tbh.

It has compnents at the front of the door (6.5 with 1 inch tweeter) either a 5.25 or 4 inch in the rear, I've has conflicting reports. And two 6.5 inch speakers under rear glass.

I've ordered two adapter rings and a set of focal 165 speakers with tweeters. I'll install them and see what size the other speakers in the door are.
