Hey guys,

Im now in two minds AGAIN!!

Do I upgrade my CPU with a 7700K and keep the RX 480 GPU. Or. Keep the 7500 CPU and upgrade the GPU to a RX 580 from OCUK?

Sorry as im posting a lot of these threads, just money is tight, and dont want to make MORE mistakes than I already have :(:(

Cheer guys!

Not really worth doing either. The RX 580 is only a marginal upgrade on the RX 480, as they are basically the same chip just with a slight clock speed improvement. The 7700k is a bit better, with increased thread count and clock speed, but in all likelihood in 90% of games you won't see the improvements.

I would keep what you have for now and save your money.

That GPU upgrade would be marginal tbh

What's the rest of your spec?

For the cost of 7700k if buying new you could move to Ryzen with many more threads assuming you could keep your ram.

More memory or ssd might be better upgrade, or just save a little longer and get something like a GTX 1070?

Seems the best option :(

The problem with Ryzen is my 16gb RAM is only 2133MHz . I have a boot SSD already, but do want to stay with AMD for FreeSync.

Would I still get decent performance on the Ryzen system as I could upgrade the RAM, MB and CPU all in one stab at it??

Depends what you do with the system to be honest, and also some older titles might actually run better on your current kit, as it's only really newer / bigger titles really taking advantages of more threads.

With that memory you would loose some perf on Ryzen, really you want no less than 2667 - gain after that are still be be had, but are much less than the difference between 2133 and 2667, if buying new I would have 3000/3200.

You could sell your current stuff to fund and go for something like this, which would be cheap way into AMD, but a bigger budget might help as you might want 16GB of memory, might be better move if your just a gamer to grab a Vega56 as soon as funds allow, as you most likely GPU limited and not CPU limited at the moment, also below is 6c12t, you might want 8c16t...

Can someone shed some light on this..I have been using DOOM (2016) gauge my FPS, but its horrible! The menus stutter, music stutters, and when I load a game in VULCAN it just takes a ****! BUt on OpenGL on ULTRA detail, im getting an average of around 80ish FPS or there abouts..

So I just fired up Far Cry 5 to compare..and its night and day...Menus perfect, music perfect, load a saved game, and I know it will drop more but at HIGH detail on 1080p im averaging 85ish FPS..

Also really pleased with the temps, the GPU is loud as hell though, but peaked at 66c and averaged 64-65c - and the CPU peaked at 51c and averaged 47-48c..

Do I discard DOOM and say, my system is OK? Cause surely on paper FC5 should be quite a demanding AAA title??

Would keep your current combo, wait till end of year :)
Your in a bit of a limbo. More FPS is gpu upgrade but your core will hold back 1080p, upgrade the CPU and you'll have a good basis for future GPU but then you've put down cash on older tech

Are your drivers upto date? What version are you on - your card should be fine in Doom

Im on 18.2.1 - Adrenaline. I dont know whats up with DOOM tbh??

Think I will keep what im at the now, its a decent system..but one thing im gonna do is take out my 500gb HD, and put in a 480gb SSD for my games. That will help a little you guys think?

Installed my new SSD today, installed CS GO and changed my profile to "maximum, performance" in W10 and runs smooth as silk, no stuttering , not once in a full length comp. If ******* chuffed!

Thanks for the advice OCUK peeps!!!
