I've finally decided to get

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600

and

Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-5300C3 667MHz Dual Channel Kit

But which motherboard?

I've spent weeks looking at reviews etc, but still I don't know which one to get.

I will be overclocking, but it will be my first time.

Will also be getting 8800 GC, but I don't know which one yet.

I'm not exactly sure why, but I'm getting evga 680i with the same components as you. It's expensive but I hear "worth" it :)

I can heartily recommend the AB9 QuadGT, imo it's better than the DS4 that I had before although that was OK.

I still can't narrow it down.

Any of these?

Abit AB9 Quad GT (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3P (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Gigabyte GA_965P_DS4 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

Asus P5N-E SLi nForce 650 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Asus P5B Deluxe (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Asus P5B (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

Would the ones with heatpipes on bridges be better? Or just stick some small fans on top of bridges that don't have heatpipes?

If the latter is true? Then i'm tempted towards

Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3P (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

What do you think?

DS3P is essentially the DS4 minus the heatpipe chipset cooling.
Having used both imo the QuadGT is better than a DS4 so better than a DS3P too then.

Ilso prefer it to the P5N-E that I also have.

DS3P overclocks nicly and the bios is just fine. I have one of these working overclocked by a lot and its solid as a rock. Get the DS3P seeing as it makes very little difference.

Remember that it only has 1 IDE slot.

Am I too late to also recommend the DS3P

In all honesty, the boards listed are all good boards, I made my choice entirely on which board had the best layout and which would suite my case in terms of cable layout.

DS3P +1

Do you need 2 PATA ports or SLI? If not you can take P5N-E off your list.

DS3P is esentially the same as DS4 but cheaper so DS4 can be crossed off.

And out of the 4 remaining on your list the DS3P has the best value for money in terms of oc ability and features.

Not a difficult decision really. :)
