hi all i am currently playing AOC and have paid my first month subscription as its a online game but im confussed i thought i would be playing against the online community against ppls characters but instead all i seem to doing is fighting against the computer characters?
i thought i would also be able to speak to ppl online in the game IE: for help and online chat etc
it seems to me that im paying £10 to play a game against the computer im i missing something can someone please explain

Please note i know most ppl hate this game so please dont rant and rave and slate the game as i want to find out about it on my own

Thanks.

You have to get out of the starting area (level20) before you see more players. Most of the starting part is against computer players to ease you into the controls etc.

As st0rmer said I guess you are still in Tortage? This is the starting area, the only places you can fight other real players are in some of the dungeons and in White Sands (or is it White Isle? its been a while :p).

After that in the main game you cant fight in the main cities but can pretty much everywhere else. Also which server are you on? I think Fury is the main Euro one.

thanks guys yes i have just started in tortage and i have freed the girl and have to head to the city,so when i get past level 20 i should see a improvement online i mean against more of the community?

Sounds like you were expecting a game focusing on playing against real people? Warhammer online aims to do this. What other popular mmo's do ie everquest, wow, lord of the rings online and age of conan do is fight against monsters but with real people as a team. There are player versus player oppurtunities on these games but it isn't really the main focus.

p.s
don't bother with AOC even if you do enjoy it, you'd be enjoying somthing like wow a lot more.

What are you talking about? 7 out of the 13 English-speaking EU servers are dedicated to PvP, two of them hybrid PvP/RP. I don't even play Age Of Conan anymore, but it sounds to me like you never have.

Ermmm.... they really arn't "dedicated to pvp" in the same way wow pvp servers arn't "dedicated to pvp". Sure there is more ganking but real pvp unfortunately takes place in instance.

On top of that there is no questing system for pvp, or infact any real reward system (have they implemented that yet?), it dosen't really affect anything ingame it's just an isolated extra i.m.o.

Ganking isn't part of PVP? What MMO do you play that has such an amazing community? I want in.

However you spin it, PvP means "player vs. player". Age Of Conan has 54% of its servers dedicated to this.

Tortage has tortage day and tortage night, night is a closed single player instance, daytime is multiplayer. if i remember correct.

the game is fun, but not without its flaws. I really enjoyed it up until lvl 27ish. But then i was busy with other things in life, which put me off paying for a second month etc.

It doesnt deserve the slating it gets, but its not perfect

No, it doesn't have 54% of its servers dedicated to it, they are jsut labelled PvP servers. Unless Funcom have actually introduced the pvp reward system (which as far as i know they haven't) then AoC isn't "dedicated" to PvP in any way, shape, or form

To the OP, i'd seriously consider taking one of the earlier posters' advice, and try WoW... much better game all told... although i'll personally be playing WAR when it comes out in a few days :)

So you can't fight other players, can you not? If you join a PvP server in AoC you are going to be fighting other players, very often, whether you want to or not. This pretty much fits my definition of "dedicated" seeing as we're using our own definitions of everything to justify what we're saying.

I had more fun in my first 20 lvls on AoC than i did on WoW.

I played wow for 2.5years too.

You should take a peek at wow, i'd recommend the stormreaver server, never ganked (i.e killed in a cowardly manor) from 1-55.

Anyways player versus player is more of a server option, kinda like team damage in css. Still have a manily focused PvE auidence however you "spin it" because lets face it that's what the game is made to do. Warhammer online (never played) and dark age of camalot (never played) are more the types of PVP orientated games.

p.s

dedicated: "devoted to a cause or ideal or purpose" (http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=define:dedicated&btnG=Google+Search&meta=)

Yes.... i can also stick my head in the washing machine, but neither i nor the washing machine are dedicated to me sticking my head in it.

You can pvp in AoC sure, but saying the game is dedicated to it is having a bit of a laugh really ;)

It's about as "dedicated" to PvP as "PvP" is defined by rewards and PvP quests.

Horses for courses i guess :) AoC was pretty good fun for a few weeks, but imo WoW had far more staying power - i never felt like i really wanted to just get another level or complete another quest in AoC, whereas WoW really kept my attention.

The itemisation is the biggest issue really. in wow its very clear what item is better than your own, so you aim for it, or one similar..

AoC has the most dodgy itemisation ever. Its hard to even know whats better or worse.

Thats one of the big let downs. The graphics and areas in AoC are stunning though. And it has a lot of potential, how well they work on that potential is their business though :(

Is this still a major problem then? I used to read the patch notes regularly after leaving so I'd know when the time was right to go back, and this was one of my pet peeves.

I dunno mate, it was a bugbear of mine when i decided not to resub, but i dont know if they have improved it any.

Bigger numbers = better... that does me fine..

however when its stuff like "0.12+ Defence from arrows fired over a hedge", it kinda confused me!

LOL, aye. And when I left crafting didn't remotely work either, I should check up on that.
