Don't know how to do polls and can't be bothered to find out and annoy you all with one...

But a week or so in whats the verdict, based on what the game presents, not what isn't in it, and not what it doesn't do, and not how its not like WoW or <insert favourite MMO name here>.

1) Technical infrasture - enough servers, hosting company OK, networking infrastructure coping with load...

2) Support and patching

3) Is the game fun and worth bothering with now. In a few months maybe?

Thank you for any input - just want to get a feel for whether its going to be worth upgrading my OS and hardware for this.

I've been playing the game for about a week and I find it extremely fun, but I won't lie to you and say that it's perfect. The game could use some optimisation and it's in dire need of relentless patching.

They've been pretty good with patches so far, but mostly patching minor issues.

Infrastructure is good. They have a large number of servers with varying rulesets and the community is pretty enormous considering the game has just launched, the servers have no trouble coping with this.

They recently announced they'll be adding a lot of new content soon as there are lots of complaints about there being nothing to do but grind after about level 50, so they're introducing new quests and an entire new zone to play in. They are listening to the community and it bodes well for me.

As for support, they are extremely understaffed in GM support. Don't expect any help at all.

Overall I'd say that if bugs bother you to the point of putting you off a game then I wouldn't buy an MMO on release, but if you don't mind playing while you wait for the rough edges to be smoothed out then Conan is worth playing now so long as you don't expect to simply walk up easy street to max level.

As for the question about hardware it'd probably be more use to try the game on what you have first, but it needs a pretty beefy system. What are your specs at the moment?

Windows 2000 and thats the show stopper. If I'm going to spend days reloading and patching I'm doing it on new hardware.

Currently AMD Athlon XP 2400+, NF7-s revision 1 mobo, 2GB crucial RAM, 2 x 160GB PATA drives, 20x DVD recorder, Creative Audigy player, Gainward Golden sample 7600GT 256MB RAM Video card(AGP).

Under Windows 2000 this played Vanguard at quite high settings, Lotro pretty much maxed out, Oblivion pretty much maxed out (35fps around town, somewhat slower outside especially in grass), has WoW for breakfast maxed out, and plays my favourite stuff like Civilization and Generals:Zero Hour very well indeed.

It is time for an upgrade - just a question of now or Nehelem.

I think the 7600GT is really going to hold you back in Conan, the Athlon XP even moreso as it utilises dual core processors quite well (but almost entirely ignores third and fourth cores).
