Age of Empires 2 - Really slow during MP

Hi

Played Age of Empires 2 over the LAN on the weekend vs a friend and it was good fun (we prefer the oldschool strategy games). Last night we tried it over the internet and it wasn't too bad up until mid-battle when there was a lot going on it slowed right down and seemed to just hang.

Is there a fix for this that anyone knows of? Can anyone help me sorting this out please?

It is very slow over any form or connection even a 100 base lan and it doesnt matter what spec your pc is either :(

I love AOE2 , one of the best strategy games i've played in a long time, must dig it out again actually.

Do you play a lot ? might have to join you for a game sometime.

Count me in too, one of the best games ever.
 
Only just started playing it this week. It is a fantastic game, just a shame we're going to try and decrease the resolution and smaller map. Hopefull this will solve the massive lag issues.
 
Make sure you have the latest patch - search *** web. Huge armies and using warships does cause some slowdown but when my and my friends used to play 3v3 over lan, we never experienced major slowdowns. Age 3 has been known to lag more.
 
Tried updating to the latest patch, whenevver we seem to create game it wants the CD and its in but it just won't let us do multiplayer with the update for some reason. Its proper annoying!
