hey guys,

I'm gonna be buying either age of empires II or III for my macbook soon and was wondering if its worth going for 3 or shall i stick to the absolute classic that is AOEII?

i've had a read and it seems more guns and cannons than samurais and war elephants and i'm not entirely sure i like that :( - what are your opinions?

AOEII is very 2D by modern standards.

I have both, and if graphics don't bother you I'd say AOEII was better.

AOEIII is very good though and is also more detailed, but I didn't like the campaign as it felt more fictional than historical.

AOEIII is a brilliant game, it is probably more about strategy than AOEII which was more just mass stuff up game whilst AOEIII has a counter system.

AOEIII is far from perfect though, but I would say AOEII is a little too old now.

you mean how they all fall over in exactly the same direction? It's almost syncranised dying

If they're all facing the same way, and get hit from the same direction at the same time, yes. Other than that it seems random and doesn't affect gameplay anyway.

/OT

Can I catch you on msn?

I'm just finishing coursework then going to bed, and it's for tomorow, so I can't really afford to be distracted sorry. (despite posting on here lol)

I haven't played AOEIII in ages, but I never liked the fact that you couldn't do a proper random skirmish with a completely random map. That was what made me play AOEII for so long.

Hmm strange, because I installed AoE2 Conq just last night on Vista. I've always held AoE2 as the best RTS I've ever played but going to it from AoE 3 felt like a massive step backwards.

Obviously I couldn't change the res, so I was stuck at 1280x, I couldn't queue unit/building upgrades, which really annoyed me. There were just little things that bugged me and I now feel AoE 3 (which I've been playing since release) is more polished. AoE II holds memories of mad late night gaming sessions though, and I do miss boxing in enemy bases by surrounding it with castles filled with archers :p

However my Lv91 city in AoE 3 roxors nubbins sideways :D
