Agggh my VM is stuck!!

I think when backup exec attempts to backup a VM it snapshots it first, and in this instance filed to remove the snapshot of my VM and somehow left it with twice the provisioned space it was meant to have...

So i went to snapshot manager, deleted the snapshot and it got to 99% after taking about an hour and a half and now it's been sat on 99% for about 2 and a half hours or longer, i think it's stuck, does anyone know how to fix this? It's my damn exchange 2010 server! >_<

EDIT: This is vmware in a vcenter cluster

Ah went away and left it for a while in hope it would come to life, another hour later and it's finally working again.

Didn't realise until afterwards but the snapshots were taking up 400gb of space!!! Something very wrong there i think as backup exec should have removed those snapshots after backing up that VM, not that I'm all that surprised considering the sheer amount of bugs i experience with BE2010
 
Your snapshots are all the changes that have been occuring to the VM since the point where the snapshot was taken

Seems like a lot, cant imagine it would be 400gb of changes to your mail stores unless someone was doing something signficant during that time, Is it possible that your backup is somehow writing data inside the VM and causing the snapshot to grow? Normally id only expect to see a snapshot that big if it had been created and left for some time

Sadly the progress is somewhat useless, the data seems to be committed right at the end of the progress bar which means that 1% was potentially taking so long because thats where it was adding the 400gb snapshot into the original disk file
 
Backup Exec has a habit of doing this. I would suggesting obtaining the latest BE hotfixes and service packs, and also setting up vcenter alerts to email you when a snapshot exists.
