Aghhhh Tenant.....bill!

So, just opened an electricity bill for the quarter and it's £385! We have storage heating in my flat and it turns out my tenant has had his electric heater in his room on for 12 hours per day As I bill him inclusive of everything I'm a bit ******* off tbh as it's actually on from 6pm until 6am and he's not in his room until about 11pm each night.

So, what's the best way to approach this then? Subly ask him not to be so wasteful or drop his rent but split the bills? If he was just using electricity normally I would be happy with all in one price, but I think that because his bill is all inc he's taking the michael. The bill is £40 per month over what I normally spend even for winter.

Buy him a calor gas fire, and rip the storage heater off the wall.

Tell him its a fire hazzard to leave on while hes not in, if he continues to leave it on set fire to it

Did you state any kind of 'acceptable use' policy when you defined the all-inclusivity?

I'd mention it to him, that he's caused the bill to be very large, and wait for him to offer to pay some of it.

Find a small cripple boy, dress him in rags then when the tenant comes in tell the little boy that you can't buy him a birthday present this year because you've had to spend all the money on your tenets electricity bill, ad he'll just have to be happy to go visit his parents grave for the day.

Ideally get him to say to the tenet it's ok mister i understand etc.

Im sorry but having all inclusive is just asking for trouble lol - I leave my pc on 24-7 etc, you really shouldnt offer all inclusive - Im sure there's a better way to distribute the electricity round the house to for example his room. If not - I know what Im going to invent - an electricity distributor.

What kind of storage heaters are they, ours only come on from 11:30PM till 6AM as they are offpeak hours.

Put his electricity on a key. Or state you're only willing to pay up to a certain amount per month.

All fair points. His room does not have a storage heater, just a regular electric one. The economy 7 rate is from 12:30 to 7:30 so he uses that for 5 1/2 hours, but the rest is at full rate.

He is on a six month contract and will be renewing at the end of the month so I may make a change, but will have a chat with him first.
