I have a HP HDX 18 laptop that shuts down a few seconds after booting into windows, I stripped it down, gave it a good clean and also cleaned off the old thermal paste, which was hard and flaky and applied fresh new stuff. When I powered up it lasted a few minutes then switched off. I remember this happening before and it was a driver issue but the laptop will not stay on long enough for me to try and look for new drivers. Any help would be appreciated.

Lasting for a few minutes sounds like a thermal cutout - did you add thermal pads/paste to the VRM?
I added thermal paste to all heatsinks

I think its thermal cutout due to graphics being overclocked due to wrong driver, even with a clean install it happens after the auto updates, I think if I can stop the updates maybe I can force it to accept a different driver.
