ok going to be getting a 3700+sd to upgrade my pc so will need a half decent motherboard to go with it.
The motherboard must meet the following needs:

£60 max
have agp slot(current card was xmas present from wife so not selling)
be a fairly good clocker, looking to run at 2.6 or so.

Seen the asrock dual sata but also seen a lot of bad comments on clocking potential and low performance with agp but others say its really good but don't really want to take the chance so what else is out there??

Simple, get the ASrock dual sata mobo. Its s939, has both agp and pci-e and really cheap too! I bought mine for only £43 from a computer fair :) , and it might be even cheaper on the internet.

Sorry, I just read the bottom bit. Didnt see that :o . I've got one and havent had any problems with it yet, though I think you might be right about the agp performance, but then what do you expect for forty quid? :D

Don't really want to buy a board that might lower the performance of my graphics card as it would be defying the point of the upgrade.
I've seen these two

Epox EP-9NDA3J nForce3 Ultra (Socket 939) Motherboard (MB-029-EP) for £58

Gigabyte K8NSC-939 nForce3 250GB (Socket 939) Motherboard (MB-036-GI) for £56

anyone had any experiance with either of these two boards??

I bought Asrock dual sata with a opteron 146 at christmas. Did a benchmark sysmark 01 for my old setup which was xp 2500 barton asus a78nx motherboard leadtek 6800le graphics card at stock and got 12500 marks, after upgrading processer and motherboard sysmark 01 reached 18500 near enough a 50 percent increase. I have overclocked stable at 2.7 and overclocked my graphics card aswell got score of 23500,which I think speaks for itself .I am quite happy with that.Hope that helps

i got the asrock 939 dual sata2 and an opty 144 and had no problems at all went strait in at 300x9 on stock volts and agp perormance is better than i got on my old P4C800 Delux

I think that if you're buying a s939 board with AGP then the VIA K8T800 pro chipset is better than the Nforce 3. You could get an Asus A8V (deluxe) for around that price if you shop around. The deluxe edition comes with Wifi if needed and can act as a sof router.

Im happy with my board and the agp performance is stable/fine.I think most people who have poor graphics performance dont set it up correctly.

Asrock

This thread got me all paranoid once I setup my asrock with my opty 146, X800XT PE and asrock dual.

After much googling it seems that my setup is just about on par for the spec I have.

X800 xt pe agp@ stock

3d mark 03 at around 13500.........

That seems just about right to me?

EDIT: Meant to post this in the other Asrock thread...but I suppose it's relevant here anyway. :D

quick question on the Asrock dual, what are the stock options with the latest bios for the following:

fsb - what can you go up to
v.core voltage - same as above
agp/pci-e lock - is there one
ram voltage - whats available

many thanks.

fsb - official bios's 274 ocwbeta1,2 bios's 400
v.core voltage - depends on cpu but most are 1.45 but with a simple vcore mod with a bit of conductive paint you can get upto 1.55v
agp/pci-e lock - yes there is a agp/pci-e lock
ram voltage - upto 2.7v and the OCZ DDR Booster is compatible with this board

can't really be bothered to have to mod a board to get it to do the things I want. will prob go for a different board and in a year or so swap to pci-e and get a sli board then.

hi,
xms 3200C2PT v1.2 and im running with ocz booster at 2.8 seems ideal.
And yeah 2 sticks

No 2.7 was fine for 2t at 2.5 3 3 11,on my asrock,(okay on nf7s v2 @ 1T).but i found for 1t to be stable 2.8v was the one-OCZ booster.I wont go as far as taking out ram and testing single.Im swearing on it being why some users have 1t probs as the board needs coaxing in the volt department.

Strangely enough thats very easy and pretty hassle free to reslove.
The asrock board is really good value.

Hey james great sig.
