My Computer is four years old, the graphics card has just gone it was a XFX GeForce 6800LE.

I was looking to purchase a PowerColor HD 3850 Pro PCS 512MB GDDR3 to replace it.

My current specs are:

Mobo - Asus K8v-x
CPU - AMD Athlon 64 3400+ 2.40 gig
RAM - 2 x 512mb DDR
PSU - Akasa 500w

going to upgrade the ram to 2 x 1gb

I mainly play CSS and COD 1
I would like to play COD 4

Will the new card work ok with my old rig?

I will in the future be upgrading to PCI-e but wanted to keep this comp running
Thanks.

Should do fine - might be bottlenecked by the CPU a touch although it's very dependant on the res you play at.

Is the cpu/mobo a socket 754 set up?

Also, what resolution are you planning to game at?

Thanks for the reply GT

Im fairly new to the technical stuff, I had to check the user guide, it is a 754 socket.

Resolution is 1024 x 768

I can say that an X1950 pro will run those games with ease at that resolution and may be cheaper. I'm running on a very similar setup and the limiting factor for me is the CPU by far.

What about the OcUK ATI X1950 Pro for £47.

Should run your games a treat and would be a good match for the rest of your system
