Lovely Wolver-ampton!
Hi All

I have about £250 for a new monitor and AGP gfx card but I need some help and advice.

open to suggestions!

I play CS:S, rfactor and GTR2 mainly.

Current pc spec is athlon 64 2000 with 2gb ram.

cheers.

Not necessarily after the best / most expensive. Is that the only AGP worth considering? Have always been an Nvidia fanboy. Currently using a 6600GT.

Looking at 22" monitors and probably some kind of PCTV card / adapter too. Will this card you mention offer all the connectivity say, if I wanted to hook up my 360 to my monitor too? How simple is that?

Does it require any uber powered PSU? I'm using a Biostar Ideq small form factor - it's running the 6600gt perfectly fine - no power problems there. Are the newer AGP cards any more power hungry than this?

I really haven't got the cash to buy a whole new PC, just enough for the new screen and GFX card.

Anyone? The PSU in the Ideq I have is an "uprated 250w".

As i said, it runs the 6600gt fine, but if I order an x1950 card, will there be enough juice to power it?

The 6600 GT uses 48W at load.
The x1950 Pro uses 66W at load.

It might be enough.

You've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel lucky?' Well, do ya punk? :D

Don't chance it, in my honest opinion, i'll be amazed if you can run an x1950 Pro on 250Watts

If you can, you'll be pushing it close.

Best advice I can give you is, don't skimp on power, your PSU is just as important as your RAM, or Graphics Card. If it blows, you better pray it doesn't take anything with it :)
