Hi all

Im here again needing your expert help, my current system (in my signature) although i admit its a little on the old side it runs ok, but with new games coming out ive been told i will need to update my graphics card to run games like medal of honour Airborne, now i was looking at the card in link but been told by OCUK to run this card i will also need to buy a PSU which tbh i cant afford to buy both a card and psu, so im after some help i need a AGP card and dont mind going from ATI to NVIDIA at all i just want a card that will play most games on my current system untill i can afford to upgrade to a PCI-E system, anyway i hope you can help me or at least point me in the right direction.

Cheers all

Hi,

I can't see a link anywhere but I'm sure your enermax will power pretty much any AGP card. If you take a look at the label on the side of your PSU you'll get a good idea. My old Enermax had 33A on the +12v rail, you may have more that one +12v supply but the PSU should handle a single card.

If you want high end then either the x1950pro AGP or the 7800GS AGP would be fine. I think the X1950 is a little quicker but the 7800 is cheaper and still a good card.

Well not knowing what card your on about as there is no link, id go for the x1950pro as it will run fine on your PSU, and be more than double performance of your x800 XL, absolute massive boost.

If you have a 485w noisetaker, it will run... I run a pair of oc'd 7800GTX's with a oc'd e4300 on a 5 year old 460w Enermax and a sinle GTX takes far more power than the x1950 pro.

Buy one ... be happy

I'd buy an x1950Pro. I bought an 7600GT for ~£80 when the x1950Pros were ~£150 so it made sense then.

But, now that you can get a x1950Pro for ~£111 and the 7800GS isn't the GS'+' (Gainward 7800GS+ has 24 pipes... it's a 7900GT in disguise), It makes sense to buy one.

Performance wise the x1950Pro sits in the middle of the GS and the GS+ (closer to the GS+) So the prices are a good reflection of their performance tbh.

Avoid 7600GS cards, especially the one thats £94!!

*EDIT* PSU should be fine. Check your ampere rating on the +12V line. Enermax's are good for this.

Ok im a dummy with computers so what does (+12V line) mean sorry

Ps Looked on side of box my PSU came with and the model number is EG495AX-VE is that helps !

The +12V line is the power rail which the gfx card will draw power from. Model number helps thanks. Your PSU has two +12V lines which total 36A.

That pretty much somes it up. These days the +12v rail is probably the most important when discussing PSU's.

For future referance it is taken from the sticker on the side of the PSU.
See here ... (this isnt your PSU though):

And going by your PSU specs you should not have a problem running an X1950Pro, which is definitely the card for you to get. It offers a big increase (at least double) over your current card & should keep you gaming for quite a lot longer.
