Hello,

I have a issue with the card in title, when I come to install the forceware driver I get an error along the lines of "Could not install driver, your graphics card is not compatible" or something like that. I have downloaded the latest version of the driver on the nvidia website (93.71).

However the driver can be installed if you force it by going in to device manager, "update driver" and then "don't search. I will chose the driver to install.", it comes up with a warning saying my card may not work properly etc..

Everything seems to work fine and device manager lists the card as a 7900GS - but in display properties the "nvidia <card name>" tab says Nvidia (unknown).

I am running a very new install of windows XP pro, and I uninstalled the nvidia driver before putting in my new graphics card.

Has anyone else had this problem and is there a way to make the driver install properly?

Any help would be grateful.

Tried drivers from the xfx site/ xfx cd you got, instead of nvidia ones?

Tbh i've never heard of a 7900gs agp card....

No I haven't tried that *digs out his xfx box. I have however raised a ticket with the XFX support and awaiting a reply.

A competitor site says "New from XFX!!!" so I presume its only just been released - I noticed it about 3 weeks ago.

<edit> I have now installed the XFX driver, which isn't WHQL obviously but atleast it finds my card compatible. I always think of the driver that comes with the card as being out of date, but I suppose the card is *new* for agp.

Thanks for the help.

EDIT, ook didnt see your edit, nice to hear, well aslong as all games work fine and stable, and windows too, then whql is easy enough to ignore.

How's that new card going ?????

Quite tempted by one of those. Was looking a few months ago for a 7600GT AGP card but hung on and still looking.

Its condiserably better than my 6600gt, I have a native resolution of 1680x1050 and any games that would play on my 6600gt at that res I had to have on low - most new games like stalker I had to play in a window of 1152x864.

However the 7900GS is a hell of a lot better, I can now play games like stalker on full res and on "high" settings aswell as CC:S (not that I actually play it much though), cnc3 looks awesome on high settings too :D Unfortunatly the card only has 256mb but thats double what my 6600gt had.

I would say that my CPU is a lacking a bit though (P4 Northwood C 2.8GH - used to be 3.25ghz untill I got new memory) so perhaps another overclock is in order, especially as my new mem is faster and 2 sticks rather than 4 :)
