Still gutted he never joined Liverpool instead of Atletico in 2006.

I have no idea how insurance works for footballers but I would've thought Barca would be covered given his history of injuries. That's based on the assumption they actually chose to pay for insurance

One report mentioned he was having heart issues.

Yep, that's the reason he's retiring. He had a similar issue when he was 12, a heart operation when he was 15 and collapsed during a match against Nigeria in 2017. He also had COVID in June so whether it's a result of that, a side effect of the vaccine, not sure he's had it or not, or just fate isn't known.
