I have a ASUS Crosshair formula 3 mobo, Corsair force 3 SSD, 2x 1tb samsung spinpoints (NON RAID) and when ever I set in my BIOS to enable AHCI it does the following (Watch video)

AHCI is enabled in windows it self. I am running BIOS version 2.61 which doesn't exist on their website. It's not the most up to date on. Any solutions? I want to be able to use my hotswap bays too.

At the risk of n00bifying you I'd flash it with the latest firmware and then do as Stulid says.

Try a fresh install of windows with the AHCI set before hand?

Flash the SSd firmware?

Tried flashing using Corsairs tool and it will not update from 1.3 to 1.3.2... I've run the tool 3 times and restarted also. I just won't update, I get no errors either

ASUS BIOS update utility also refuses to run on my system claiming I don't have an x64/x86 system.... Clearly I do....

Reading the PDF that comes with the update tools says its intended to run in AHCI mode and may fail if not used, this obviously doesnt help your cause as you cant run that mode.

I have nothing more to suggest apart from a fresh install with AHCI set first and not changing it after the install.

I can't reinstall as I have lost me CD key for windows. I have the original version I bought still installed on a HDD but i've not wiped it just in case I was able to get the key from it some how otherwise it was £50 down the drain. Is there any way of getting a windows key? SIW tells you your key but I don't want to delete the partition and wipe the SSD to find that the key doesn't work and then I am forced to buy a replacement key...

After some testing I've discovered:

1. Either the programs pick up the wrong key or the key is broken....
2. My motherboard even on latest BIOS does not seem to support AHCI on my OCZ vertex 2 120GB and does not install windows onto it unless it is set to IDE mode.

I will do without AHCI as I have done for the past year. Thanks for all your help though

Shot in the dark here - try enabling hot swap in BIOS on your SATA ports. I had a problem with AHCI after I added my SSD to run as boot drive with my HDD as storage, and that solved it (if you haven't already got it enabled of course).

Even with all drives removed bar the SSD it still doesn't work. I am planning on upgrading to Intel and get some new kit that will support it all. Thanks for the reply though
