Hi everyone. I currently run win7 pro 64bit and my motherboard is set to AHCI mode. I want to use 2 of my hard drives in RAID so need to change my bios settings to RAID mode. The RAID hard drives will not be used as boot drives so will i still need to do clean install? Is there a workaround? Thanks

If your OS drive is on the same controller then you will have problems, regardless of whether or not the OS drive is part of an actual RAID set.

I had the same issue on my server using a P5B Deluxe. I managed to get around it by using the second SATA controller on the board for my OS drive. Since this was independant from the RAID-mode Intel controller I could set it to AHCI and everything works :)

If you don't have a secondary controller, you might be in for an OS reinstallation!

After ages of googling, I came across a solution!!!!!

I tried it and it worked!!! I'm typing from my PC right now!!

After following the steps, all I did was reboot, changed my mobo to RAID and reinstall the Intel Rapid Storage Technology. WOHOO!!

EDIT: It also works for IDE to AHCI and IDE to RAID
